I saw where people are selling new stocks but I really would like to keep this wood on it.Finally came yesterday! There's a beautiful, Victorian lady under all of that grit! I bought it from IMA-USA "untouched" for $200. (seen here ) I have the piece but obviously I cannot keep it in.ĭoes anyone have any feedback on what you would do with the wood? Even if this stays as a wall hanger is it possible to fix it up a bit? The stock is quite loose as some of the wood is damage as seen in the pictures, it also has the damage where the metal piece sits that the lever rests. The barrel looks good and the action works like it was new. I have a friend who is able to make some reload for this but having never done something like this I don't know if I should even try to fire it. Surprisingly while the barrel had some pitting underneath the rest of it looks good, there seems to be no damage inside. The black funk that covered it was a mix of dirt and what I think was fat? I still cant get most of it off, I used mineral spirits with a synthetic 0000 steel wool. As you can see it has some serious damage. The part where I was really having a hard time was the wood. The bayonet and barrel I soaked in generous amounts of break free, cleaning with steel wool and then repeating 2 more times.

The metal went into a sonic cleaner with diluted Simple Green Pro for 10 minutes and cleaned with steel wool. I sprayed everything in break free and let it sit for a few hours, with some struggles I was able to get everything apart. I didnt many before pictures but the first one demonstrates the massive amount of funk that was on the rifle. Never done something like this but I wanted to try it and see how it goes.
